Do I go Home today?

Thank you, Richa, for sharing this and allowing me to put this up on the blog. Do I go Home today? My family brought me home, Cradled in their arms. They cuddled me and smiled at me, And said I was full of charms. They played and laughed with me.They showered me with toys. I sure do love my family, Especially the girls and boys. The children loved to feed me. They gave me special treats. They even let me sleep with them, All snuggled in the sheets. I used to go for walks, Often several times a day. They even fought to hold the leash, I'm very proud to say. They used to laugh and praise me, When I played with that old shoe. But I didn't know the difference, Between the old one and the new. The kids and I would grab a rag, For hours we would tug. So I thought I did the right thing, When I chewed the bathroom rug. They said I was out of control, And would have to live outside. This I did not understand, Although I tried and tried. The walks stopped one by one. They said they hadn&#

Ending Animal Dissection In Zoology Courses

PETA Lauds 15 Universities For Ending Animal Dissection In Zoology Courses, Urges Ban At All Institutions For Immediate Release: 15 March 2010 Contact: Anuradha Srivastava 09987497167; AnuradhaS@petaindia.org New Delhi -- As the University Grants Commission (UGC) considers a ban on the dissection of animals for zoology experiments in colleges and universities, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India commends the 15 universities-- including Nalanda Open University, Madurai Kamaraj University, Pondicherry University, Thiruvalluvar University, Bharathiar University, Kakatiya University and Jamia Millia Islamia -- that have already ended animal dissection on their campuses for zoology courses or are in the process of phasing it out. PETA supports the ban on cruel and unscientific animal dissection and encourages the use of computer--generated virtual dissection programmes, observation of animals in field studies and other humane methods. PETA has written to all of the coun

Dr Marwah Speaks - Age of the Puppy

This article is a continuation of the previous one. Here Dr Marwah elaborates on what the age of the puppy to-be-adopted should be. Age of the pup: The ideal time to pick up is when he is about 6 -8 weeks. By this time, the pup has been weaned off and must have started on solid food. While most breeders are in a hurry to give away the pups early, it must be insisted that the pup would be picked up only when he is 6-8 weeks old . This gives the pup enough time to socialize. Bringing a young pup i.e. 6-8 weeks or so requires lot of time in toilet training and inspite of all the possible precautions, mishaps do occur which may be frustrating. It requires lot of patience to house train a pet. Once that is achieved, he becomes an inseparable part of your life, not that otherwise he would not. It is like a child who wets the bed every other night but still gets all the love from the parents. Against this, picking up a grown up pet, say 5 months onwards, saves you the botheration of house tr

Dr Marwah Speaks- Will it be a girl or a boy?

In my practice, there are unaccountable instances where parents want to gift a pup to their child or pup being gifted to please the boss or people who are of concern in one’s business. Think again before doing so. It is not a commodity but a small creature that needs lot of care and attention. Does the new owner have genuine interest, time, and reciprocal love for pets? If not so, you would be doing a great injustice to the pet, who may have to live a dejected life and may turn out to be a burden than a companion. You would be equally responsible for the misery of the pet. However, if you insist on having a pure breed then look into the plus and minus points of the breeds you intend to keep. Visit such breed owners, talk to them about problems, a couple of vets, read books on such breeds and then narrow down your choice. For e.g. German shepherd (Alsatian) is a one-man dog and needs firm handling. Do not go by his popularity rating. Most of them have a problem of ears, lumber weaknes

Dr Marwah Speaks- Who should have a pet

Here is an article written by Dr.Marwah, which is very close to my heart also. We come across some heart rending cases in SPCA where canines are brought as recreational toys and once the pet owner understands the amount of responsibility involved, they coolly leave the dog to die on the streets.Would they do this to their own child or an elderly parent? Maybe yes! It should never be forgotten that no pet is suitable for all homes as not all homes are suitable for pets. There are some very critical points that one must consider before even going for selecting a pet. It’s like having a new baby at home. Check with the following points: 1.Need: It’s often seen that pets are kept for the sake of keeping or fun for children. No, they are not toys which can be dumped when you don’t need them any more. Some keep as a status symbol just because the next door neighbour has a good looking pet. Again, think twice, since the next door neighbour might personally be giving time to the pet, which you

Nagpur SPCA wishes animal lovers a very happy and safe new year

This new year make a resolution to be kind to animals. Start with visiting and volunteering at Nagpur SPCA- an organization which can show you how.Even if it is for one hour a week, it is good enough for the animals housed in the shelter. Nagpur SPCA is located on Katol Road. The postal address says it is near Gittikhadan Square, Deepak Nagar but here it how to get there. If you are coming from Seminary Hills side, take a left towards Police Line Takli and continue on that road. You are now on Katol Road. You will pass Ramdeobaba Engg College on your left. You will soon reach the Gittikhadan Square. After you have crossed the signal, on your left, you will see a small HP petrol pump. Continue straight for roughly 25-35 metres. You will see a big ground. There is a small settlement there and an auto stand. There is a kuccha road going inside the ground. Get on that kuccha road and near the end of the ground on your right hand side, you will see a big blue gate and small white buildings.
